Orla Kiely Little Owl Packaway Tote Bags

Orla Kiely has just released a new style in her Little Owl print - an adorable packaway tote bag that you can store in your purse for when you go shopping, which is perfect because I love carrying around my own reusable bags. These totes are made of 100% polyester twill and feature two length handles, making it easier to carry any which way you prefer.

 $38

I love the logo tag on the outside of the bag. I wish that the website also included a picture of the way the tote looks folded up - I'm curious if it packs up a certain way and snaps close or if you just simply fold it however you want.

$38

These totes are so adorable and I love how practical and useful they are. Which one is your favorite?

I purchased this bag in the moss & grey from the Orla Kiely web site, and I have to say that I am very disappointed in the quality. Moreover, the photos are misleading. The photo with the logo is, unfortunately, the way the bag looks folded up (or stuffed, if you will) into the pocket on the inside of the bag.. What you have to do is essentially turn the bag inside out. The logo doesn't show unless the tote is turned inside out and "stuffed into" the pocket (it's about 3 inches wide by 5 inches long when stuffed into the pocket). I suppose I could have been a bit tidier about it, but the idea or method here is not particularly clever or neat. Envirosax, Feed Bag and Petunia Picklebottom have much more clever designs in this regard, and are less expensive. I'm not returning it, because it's not worth the effort, but I just thought I should tell you to WAIT until it goes on sale, or purchase one of the other bags in the owl print, if that is your favorite. I also purchased the textured small square print textured Jeanie bag, and it is beautiful. I love the graphic design -- has a very "mod" vibe -- and it is very practical and will get a lot of use. I will put this tote into that bag, so that I have a tote at the ready, but again, not a fan of the tote or the way it folds into itself. In fact, I thought mine was seriously defective, until I figured out what I had to do. This is a result of the photos on the web site being misleading and there being no instructions on how best to fold the bag into the pocket. If you know anything about Envirosax bags, this tote is of similar fabrication. Again, I think the Envirosax and Feed Bag totes do a much more clever job of folding the bag into itself for toting in your purse or whatever between uses. If you think about what Target offers in terms of Orla Kiely baby bags and the yoga tote that serve a similar purpose (and are about the same price point), this one is a HUGE MISS. Just my two cents and hope my description made sense! BTW, LOVE your blog!

Thank you so much for all the info! I'd seen a photo on Amazon on how the bag looks folded up, and you're right - it's quite disappointing. In fact, it looks pretty much like the Car print one that's being sold at Target right now for $14.99 (and some people are reporting that it's actually 70% off now, so an even better deal). The fabric even looks just like the one at Target, so might as well get that one instead. I do really like the print and will probably end up with the Tote or Backpack. Years ago Orla Kiely sold packaway bags, but they zipped up into a rectangle that had the same matte laminated fabric as her purses. That design was much nicer, and I'm hoping they will make a return someday. I also have a packaway bag that was part of the 2009 collaboration with Target that folds up rather nicely. It's made of the same cotton material as the reusable bags you see at the grocery store. I don't remember how much it retailed for, but I'm pretty sure it was inexpensive, a better price than these Owl totes, and better quality. I'll more than likely pass on these, and hope maybe Orla Kiely will reissue the zippered packaway totes from several years ago.

P.S. Thank you so much for reading my blog :)
